Blurring the outline of an image in Corel Paint can be achieved using a variety of methods and tools. CorelDRAW Graphics Suite offers a range of blur effects that can be applied to images, including the Tune Blur, Radial Blur, Bokeh Blur, and Zoom Blur effects. The Tune Blur effect, for instance, allows users to choose from four different blurring options and adjust the intensity to create the desired effect. Additionally, the Smart Blur effect is ideal for retaining sharp lines and edges while removing noise and artifacts, particularly from JPEG images. Users can also utilise the Smooth and Soften effects to minimise harsh edges while preserving important image details. Another technique involves using the Brush Mask tool or the Mask Overlay tool to paint a mask on the area that needs protection before applying the desired blur effect. With Corel PHOTO-PAINT, users can apply detailed retouching, enhancements, and selective edits to sharpen or blur images. Corel PaintShop Pro also provides several commands for blurring images, including removing noise by adjusting pixel intensity and contrast, simulating motion blur, and applying radial blur with customisable spin and twirl effects.

What You'll Learn

Using CorelDRAW, open the image and select the area you want to blur
To blur the outline of an image using CorelDRAW, you first need to open the image in the software. You can do this in a couple of ways. From the Welcome Screen, select "Get Started", or you can open your document by selecting "File > Open".
Once you have your image open, you can use the Brush Mask tool or turn on the Mask Overlay tool to select the area you want to blur. The Mask Overlay tool will allow you to "paint" a mask on the area you want to "protect".
After you've selected the area you want to blur, choose the "Blur" tab when you open the "Effects" from the top toolbar. You will then be able to select from a variety of creative blur options. Once you’ve decided on the type of blur you want, select it and apply it to your image. You can then click "OK" and remove the mask.

Choose the blur type, such as Tune blur, Radial blur, or Bokeh blur
When using Corel Photo-Paint, you can choose from a variety of blur types to apply to your images. Here are some options:
Tune Blur
The Tune Blur effect (Effects Blur Tune Blur) offers four different blurring options, represented by thumbnails, that you can apply to your image. You can adjust the blur intensity and preview the image with softer or sharper focus while editing. This filter is great for improving image quality or creating unique visual effects.
Radial Blur
The Radial Blur effect (Effects Blur Radial Blur) creates a spinning or radiating blur that originates from a centre point that you specify. You can adjust the strength of the blur, with lower values lessening the effect and higher values intensifying it.
Bokeh Blur
The Bokeh Blur effect (Effects Blur Bokeh Blur) allows you to control the amount of blur applied to the outside of an editable area. You can fine-tune the transition between the area in focus and the blurred area, creating a clear point of focus in the centre of your image.
Smart Blur
The Smart Blur effect (Effects Blur Smart Blur) blurs the image while retaining edge detail. This is particularly useful when you want to maintain sharp lines and edges, such as text, when exporting to a file format that typically reduces detail. It's also effective for removing noise and artifacts from JPEG images.
Gaussian Blur
The Gaussian Blur effect (Effects Blur Gaussian Blur) produces a hazy blur by spreading pixel information outward using bell-shaped curves. This effect can enhance the quality of bitmaps with sharp edges. You can adjust the intensity of the blur using the Radius slider.
Each of these blur types offers unique capabilities to help you achieve the desired effect in your images. Play around with the different options and adjust their settings to create the perfect blur for your creative vision.

Adjust the blur strength and direction, if applicable
Corel PaintShop Pro provides several commands that let you apply a blurring effect to your images. You can adjust the strength of the blurring effect by blending a specific number of pixels incrementally, following a bell-shaped curve. The blurring is dense in the centre and feathers at the edges. The higher the settings you specify, the more image detail is erased.
You can also adjust the blur strength and direction by using the Angle dial in the Angle group box. Drag the dial or type/set a value in the control to set an angle from which the blurring is applied. Values range from 1 to 100%. Lower values lessen the effect, while higher values intensify it.
The Radial Blur dialog box allows you to choose between Spin and Twirl options. Spin blurs pixels circularly around the image centre, while Twirl blurs pixels in a spiral. You can set the degree of the twirl by typing or setting a value in the Twirl degrees control.
The Blur group box also allows you to adjust blur strength by typing or setting a value in the Strength control. Lower values will lessen the effect, while higher values will intensify it.

Preview the blurred image and make any necessary adjustments
After applying the blur effect, you can preview the blurred image and make any necessary adjustments. This can be done by adjusting the blur effect and previewing the image with a softer or sharper focus while editing. The Tune Blur filter, for instance, allows you to improve image quality or create visual effects.
The blur commands smooth transitions and decrease contrast by averaging the pixels near the edges and in areas of significant colour transitions. You can apply any of the Blur commands multiple times to the same image to increase the blurring effect. The higher the value, the greater the blur.
You can also adjust the strength of the blurring effect by blending a specific number of pixels incrementally, following a bell-shaped curve. The blurring is dense in the centre and feathers at the edges. You can further adjust the angle from which the blurring is applied. Values range from 1 to 100%. Lower values lessen the effect, while higher values intensify it.
Additionally, you can make adjustments to the centre of the image by setting values for the horizontal offset %, vertical offset %, and protect centre % in the Center group box. These settings let you control the centre point of the blur and determine how much to diminish blurring at the image centre.
