Microsoft Paint is a simple graphics painting program that comes pre-installed on Windows computers. It's a basic tool, but it can be used to create and edit images, including merging two photos together. This can be done by opening both images in Paint and using the Ctrl shortcuts to copy and paste one image onto another. This guide will explain how to add one photo to another using MS Paint.

What You'll Learn

Open Paint
To open Paint, you can find it in your Start menu. Click on the Windows Start button and type "Paint" in the search bar, then press Enter. The Paint app should open. You can also find it in your list of apps, under Windows Accessories. If you can't find it, you can download it for free from the Microsoft Store.
Once you have Paint open, you can open the first image you want to use. This image will be copied and pasted into another image, so make sure it has all the edits you want to apply before you continue.
To select the entire image, press Ctrl + A. You can also go to Select > Select All using your mouse. Then, press Ctrl + C to copy the selected image.
Now, open another image in Paint. This will be your background image. Press Ctrl + V to paste the first image over the second. You can resize the pasted image for a limited time. Once you deselect the pasted image, it will become part of the background and will not be able to be edited individually.

Import the first image
To import the first image, open Microsoft Paint by clicking the Start menu and typing "Paint" in the search bar. You can also find it in your list of apps. Alternatively, if you are using Windows, click the "Start" button, followed by "All Programs," "Accessories," and finally, "Paint."
Once Paint is open, you can import your first image. Click "File" in the top-left corner, then select "Import to canvas" and click "From a file." A selection window will open, from which you can choose the desired image file. Double-click on the image, and it will open in Paint.
If you are working with a JPEG image, you can select the entire image by holding the "Ctrl" key and pressing "A." Alternatively, you can click "Select" from the Home tab and drag your mouse across the image to select a specific portion.
If you wish to copy and paste the image, hold the "Ctrl" key and press "C" to copy the image. You can then paste it into another image by opening that image in Paint and holding "Ctrl" and pressing "V."
It is worth noting that MS Paint does not support multiple layers, so adding more than one image to a file requires the use of keyboard shortcuts or the "Import to canvas" function.

Resize the canvas
When you open an image in MS Paint, the canvas automatically fills the entire screen. While this saves you from resizing the canvas every time, there may be instances when you need more space—for instance, to create a border or add a commentary. Although resizing the image will also resize the canvas, you will still be left without any workspace.
Fortunately, MS Paint allows you to resize only the canvas without affecting the image. To do this, point your mouse pointer to the tiny square at the bottom-right corner of the canvas. Click and drag this corner to resize the canvas while maintaining the same width-to-height proportion. Alternatively, you can click and drag the tiny square at the right or bottom edge of the canvas to resize only the width or height, respectively.
If you want to resize the canvas to a specific number of pixels or centimetres, click the blue document icon to the left of the Home tab and select "Properties". This will allow you to set the canvas size according to your preferences.
It is worth noting that when you paste an image into MS Paint, the canvas automatically adjusts to fit the image. If you want to paste multiple images onto the same canvas, you will need to adjust the canvas size before adding the second image.

- Resize the canvas if necessary. To do this, click outside the image to deselect it, then drag the square in the bottom-right corner outwards to increase the canvas size.
- If you want to place the second image side-by-side with the first image, simply drag and drop the second image next to the first one.
- If you want to overlay the second image on top of the first, press Ctrl + A to select all, then press Ctrl + C to copy the selection.
- Open another instance of Paint and open the second image.
- Press Ctrl + V to paste the copied image onto the second image. You can resize and move the pasted image as needed for a limited time.
- Once you're happy with the positioning, you can save the merged image by going to "File" > "Save As", choosing a file format, and entering a name for the new merged image file.
Remember that Paint does not support multiple layers, so you will not be able to edit each image individually once they are merged. Make sure to apply all the necessary edits to each image before proceeding with the merging process.
