How to solve the moth painting puzzles
The moth painting puzzles in Hogwarts Legacy are easier to solve than they are to find. Players will find these paintings throughout their adventures in several hidden and new locations around Hogwarts and Hogsmeade. There are 15 moth paintings in Hogwarts and 5 in Hogsmeade, with a total of 20 Moth Frame puzzles to encounter.
To solve the moth painting puzzles, players must find a moth to rest within the indentation at the bottom of the frame to unlock the frame's secrets. The first step is to cast the Lumos spell on the Moth Mirror, which will reveal a clue to a nearby location. Go to that location and find the flying moth. Cast Lumos again to attract the moth and bring it back to the mirror. Stand near the frame, deactivate Lumos, and the moth will fly towards it and rest in the indentation in the frame.
Casting Revelio is also extremely helpful in finding the moth paintings as it highlights any puzzle or interactive element around the game with a blue halo. However, since the moths are small objects, players need to be close enough for the spell to be helpful.
While some Moth Frames can be found easily hung up on walls in Hogwarts Castle or displayed outside in Hogsmeade, some may be locked behind areas and hidden locations that require additional spells such as Alohomora or Depulso to access.
Players are rewarded with a Field Guide Page for each moth painting puzzle they solve.
