Microsoft Paint is a simple image editing software that allows users to resize pictures. This can be done by stretching and skewing images, which changes the horizontal and vertical percentages of the image. To do this, users must first open their chosen image file in Paint. They can then select the Image drop-down list and choose the Stretch/Skew option. From here, users can adjust the horizontal and vertical percentages of the image to their desired size.

What You'll Learn

Opening an image in MS Paint
Microsoft Paint is a basic graphics program included in Microsoft Windows 7. MS Paint supports JPEG images and can open them directly in the program. However, inserting a JPEG, or a portion of a JPEG image, into another image is more difficult, as you can only open one image at a time. This means that, unlike many other graphics programs, you cannot drag and drop the JPEG into a second image.
To open an image in MS Paint, click the "Start" button, "All Programs," "Accessories," and "Paint" to open MS Paint. Hold the "Ctrl" key and press "O" to invoke the "Open" selection window. Double-click the image that you wish to insert from the Open selection window. The image will then open in Paint.
Alternatively, you can copy the image you want to import from your internet browser by right-clicking on the image and selecting "Copy." Then, open the file you want the new image to be placed on top of in MS Paint. In Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, click on the "Paste" button in the top left area of your screen. In earlier versions of Windows, select the "Edit" drop-down menu near the top left area, then click on the "Paste" option. That will import the image on top of the previous one, and you can resize it.
Please note that early versions of MS Paint only supported .bmp, or bitmap images. So, users who are running Microsoft Windows 95, Windows NT, or an earlier version of Microsoft Windows cannot open other image file formats using MS Paint. If you are using a version of MS Paint that does not support the image file you want to open, you must use another image editor.

Selecting the Stretch/Skew command
To select the Stretch/Skew command in MS Paint, start by opening a file and loading the picture you want to work with. You can do this by selecting the image file under the "File" menu or by cutting and pasting it into a new MS Paint window.
Once your image is open, go to the "'Image' drop-down list." From this menu, select "Stretch/Skew." You will then see the Stretch/Skew command panel.
The "Stretch" command will allow you to resize your image by entering a percentage value in the "Horizontal" and "Vertical" text boxes. If you are looking to rotate your image, you can do so by selecting a region of the image and then going to the "Stretch and Skew" menu. From there, you can skew your image horizontally or vertically by entering a degree value.
It is important to note that if you plan to rotate your image, you should first stretch your image by 140% to account for some shrinkage. This will result in an image that is roughly the original size after rotation.

Using the Horizontal and Vertical text boxes
To skew an object in Clip Studio Paint, you must first select the object. Once selected, check that the Mode in the Tool Property palette is set to Skew or Scale/Rotate/Skew.
Next, you can drag the handles on the text box to skew the text. If you want to move the text, press inside the bounding box and drag it to the desired location. If you hold Shift while doing this, you can move the text horizontally, vertically, or along a 45-degree angle.
To rotate the text, hover the pen or cursor outside the text box until a rounded arrow appears. Then, drag the text in the direction you want to rotate it and release it to fix the new position. Holding Shift while doing this will rotate the text in increments of 45 degrees.
You can also edit the angle using the Rotation angle setting in the Tool Property palette or the Sub Tool Detail palette. To skew the text, change the values of Skew (horizontal) and Skew (vertical) in the Tool Property palette.

Entering percentages to resize the image
To resize an image in Microsoft Paint, start by making a copy of the image you want to resize. Right-click on the image, select 'Copy', then right-click in an empty space and select 'Paste'. Now, right-click on the copy of the image and select 'Open With' > 'Paint'.
Once your image is open in Paint, click on 'Image' in the toolbar and select 'Resize'. This will open the 'Resize' window. Make sure that ''Percentage' is selected at the top, and check the 'Maintain aspect ratio' box to ensure your image doesn't get distorted.
Now, you can enter the percentage by which you want to resize your image. Type a number between 1 and 500 into the 'Horizontal' text box. Any number below 100 will shrink the image, while any number above 100 will enlarge it. For example, changing the value to 75 will make the image 3/4 of its original size.
If you want to resize the image vertically as well, you can enter a number into the 'Vertical' text box. If you only enter a number for the horizontal dimension, the vertical dimension will automatically adjust to maintain the aspect ratio.
Finally, click 'OK' to apply your changes. Your resized image is now ready!

Saving the image
Once you have stretched and skewed your object in Paint, you can save your image by going to the main menu and selecting "File", then "Save As". This will allow you to save your resized image.
It's important to note that Paint typically saves images in the BMP/DIB format, which is not ideal for saving images from the clipboard. If you prefer to save your images in a different format, such as JPEG, there are a few workarounds you can try. One method is to create a small blank JPEG image and save it to a location on your computer, such as C:\blank.JPG, and make it read-only. Then, right-click on the Paint shortcut in the start menu and select "Properties". Append "C:\blank.JPG" to the end of the Target field, including the quotes. Now, every time you open Paint, it will start with that JPEG image, and the "Save As..." option will default to the JPEG format.
Another workaround is to right-click on the "Save as -> JPEG Picture" menu option and add it to your quick access toolbar. This will give you a new button that you can use to save any new image in the JPEG format.
Additionally, Paint supports TIFF, which includes layers as part of its standard. However, Paint tends to flatten TIFF images, which can be frustrating for users who want to maintain individual layers. While there are no straightforward solutions to this issue, some workarounds have been suggested. One idea is to save a flattened base layer and save each additional layer as a "flattened-minus-layer" custom chunk with a digital signature. This way, the layers could be reconstructed when loading the image in Paint, while incompatible products could still load the base (flattened) image.
