Inverting and incrementing
To use these tools, start by selecting the outside of your line art and clicking "Increment" a few times. This will cause a slight bleed into the line art. Then, when you invert the selection, the colour will not bleed through. This technique can be used to select all of your line art before colouring.
The "Increment" tool can also be used to create borders. Simply press "Increment" a few times, depending on how thick you want the border to be, then add a layer underneath and fill it in with colour. This works on writing, drawings, or anything else you can think of.
In Paint Tool Sai2, the "Increment" tool is called "Dilate Selection 1px" under the "Selection" menu. There is also an opposite tool that shrinks the selection by 1px.

Customising the Layer Panel
The Layer Panel in PaintTool SAI is where you can find all the layers of your project. By default, you can find the Layer Panel on the left side of the screen, right beside the tools panel. However, you can change the position of your Layer Panel by clicking on Window > Show Navigator and Layer Panels on Right Side.
To create a new layer, you can use one of the two following icons in the Layer Panel: Normal layer or Linework layer. A Normal layer is the basic layer that is most commonly used, and it allows you to draw with any of the tools available. A Linework layer, on the other hand, provides a different set of tools that enable you to draw perfectly straight lines and curves. You can also add a new layer by clicking on Layer in the top menu and selecting the type of layer you wish to create.
To erase everything from a certain layer, you can select that layer and click on Erase Selected Layers in the Layer Panel, or simply click on Layer > Erase Layer. You can also hide a layer by clicking on the eye icon beside each layer in the panel. This will allow you to view the results without any elements of that specific layer getting in the way.
