Importing a Minecraft map into WorldPainter
WorldPainter is a map generator, not a map editor. However, it does have limited support for making changes to existing maps, using the Import and Merge operations.
To import an existing Minecraft map, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+I or go to File -> Import -> Existing Minecraft map. This will create a new WorldPainter world based on the landscape (terrain height and type and biome information) of the existing map. However, it will not include any underground or above-ground structures, trees, etc.
When importing an existing map, any chunks containing man-made blocks will be marked read-only by default, indicated by a black cross. This includes underground blocks from mines and strongholds. You can still make changes to these chunks in the editor, but those changes won't be saved when you merge the map.
To merge your changes with the original map, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+R or go to File -> Merge World. This will merge any changes you make back to the existing map.
It's important to note that you should not alter chunks with buildings and correctly merge the map afterward. Additionally, there is no way to import part of one world into another world; you cannot combine worlds using WorldPainter.

To merge the changes with the original map, use Ctrl+R or File -> Merge World. This will merge any changes you have made back to the existing map. However, changing the slope of the land will mess up any trees that were on it, and you will have to manually fix any problems introduced by the merge.
Once you have finished creating and editing your map in WorldPainter, you can export it as a Minecraft map. Left-click on the "File" menu option, then left-click on the "Export" option. Edit the world name and options as desired, then left-click "Export" at the bottom of the window. You can choose the world type (Default, Superflat, or Large Biomes) and export your map in Survival, Creative, or Adventure mode, enabling or disabling cheats.
